on Friday November the 26th the Chinese European Art Center will be formally opened at 4 o’clock at Xiamen University.

The CEAC is a joint venture between Xiamen University Art College and Mrs. Ineke Gudmundsson who is from Holand. Mrs.Gudmundsson who has been working in the art for 30 years in many countries will be the director of CEAC.

In the past months both partners(Art College and Mrs.Gudmundsson) have been working on the preparation of the CEAC which they want to become a professional cultural exchange center between Europe and China in the field of the art.

The Xiamen University sees the CEAC as a research project with an educatinoal value and also as a cultural service to art lovers in Xiamen and elsewhere in China. Many exhibit ons of well known European artists are on the program and the center will invite those artists to visit China and give lectures at the University but also introduce them to the Chinese art of today.

The opening exhibition of the Chinese European Art Center will be by the Icelandic artist Sigurdur Gudmundsson who is a well-known artist in Europe and whose work is represented in many of the leading European museums. His exhibition will be formally opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland Mr.Olafur Egilsson.

Gudmundsson has been many times to China，a country which he likes to call one of his home countries，and will in the future regularly give lectures at Xiamen University.

The works on his exhibtion at the CEAC are sculptures and graphic works.The sculptures Gudmundsson exhibits are for a great deal made in Xiamen and he intends to keep on working with Chinese craftsmen in the future.

The next exhibition of the Chinese European Art Center will be by the Dutch artist Teun Hocks and will open on the January 16th.
