Ships are everywhere, nevertheless I wouldn’t have been able to make this work outside of Xiamen. I sit in my studio and watch the ships coming and going, gliding silently, or just waiting patiently for what comes and goes. Meanwhile I sit and watch, their big bodies becoming distant silhouettes, the waves rolling on the coast telling the distant stories about men and sea, weaving lives and fates in the sand as sailors spinning their threads and tales alike. What do they say, what do I hear? What’s real, what’s not? Does it matter? Yarn, a story told by the sea.
