Welcome to the Rolling Snowball 16, Djupivogur – the second round of this series of group exhibitions at Ars Longa.
In the summer of 2014, the Chinese European Art Center (CEAC) and the Municipality of Djúpivogur jointly brought the Rolling Snowball to this town, where Djupivogur is a member of the Cittaslow Movement. Since then, the cultural base in eastern Iceland has been staged every July as expected, where people from all over the world gather, connect and exchange ideas.
In the summer of 2022, Djupivogur ushered in the establishment of Ars Longa, which is also the new host venue of the Rolling Snowball exhibition. CEAC, which is rooted in a small island on the southeast coast of China called Xiamen, the fishing village Djupivogur based in eastern Iceland and Ars Longa have demonstrated overlapping natures on many levels, forming a flowing individual landscape as well as a group connection through organic rotation from bottom to top.
As in previous years, this exhibition brings together artists from China, the Netherlands, Iceland and Switzerland. They explored different fields, such as daily consumer society, human psychology, emotional motivation, perceived reality and artificial space through individual research experiments and visual language, and meanwhile observed and experienced the surrounding environment in a new way, as if weaving an open-ended and unfinished network.
Thanks to all the participating artists, Ars Longa and the Municipality of Djúpivogur for their joint efforts to keep the Snowball rolling.
Hope everyone enjoys the Snowball this summer!
